Walters State places 18 athletes on NJCAA All-Academic Teams

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The National Junior College Athletic Association announced its All-Academic Teams last week, and 18 Walters State student-athletes were recognized for their achievements in the classroom.

 

The softball program, under Coach Larry Sauceman, had seven members of its team named to the All-Academic Teams, while women's basketball, under Coach Dave Kragel, and baseball, under Coach Dave Shelton both had four members and volleyball, under Coach Megan Blaylock, had three honorees.

 

The NJCAA All-Academic Teams are broken down into three tiers: First Team is 4.0 GPA, Second Team is 3.80-3.99 GPA and Third Team is 3.60-3.79 GPA.

 

First Team honorees included Kristen Hall of the softball team, Logan Hullette of the baseball team, Sydney Hurd of the volleyball team and Teija Wareham of the women's basketball team.

 

Second Team honorees included Jenica Brown, Taylor McConnell and Lexi McDowell of the softball team, Dulcy Fankam-Mendjiadeu, Hannah Jones and Emilee Swafford of the women's basketball team , Gage Gillian, Zebulon Matthews and Corey Stone of the baseball team and Courtney Dotson and Kaley Muncy of the volleyball team.

 

Third Team honorees included Sydney Fox, Kallyn Newport and Raylon Smith, all of the softball team.
