Senators comeback falls shorts, loses to Dyersburg State 74-71

DYERSBURG, Tenn. — Walters State battled back to outscore Dyersburg State by nine in the second half, but it wasn't enough to overcome their first-half deficit as they fell 74-71 at E.H. Lanner, Jr. Gymnasium Saturday night.

The Senators (4-3, 2-2 TCCAA) used a barrage of three-pointers and 45.2 percent shooting from the floor as they mustered their comeback attempt. Unfortunately, they couldn't capitalize enough at the free throw line, going 15-of-22 in the game. Ultimately, it was those misses that cost them the game.

The Eagles were a perfect 7-for-7 from the charity stripe and out-rebounded WSCC 33-31 in the game.

The Senators were led by Demarius Boyd, who scored 17 with six rebounds. Anthony Jones had 15 to go with seven rebounds. Kobe Powell contributed 12 points from the bench. Paris Taylor put in 10.

Devin Pitts scored 21 for the Eagles and Bryce McBride put in 20. Demario Moore recorded a double double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Walters State was 6-of-18 from beyond the three-point line. Dyersburg finished 13-of-46 from past the arc. The Senators outshot Dyersburg 44.6 percent to 37 percent for the game, and scored 20 points off turnovers to the Eagles' 17. WSCC fired up 18 fewer total shots and lost the turnover battle 18-16.
