Senators finish second at Bob Dibble Classic

 

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. — Despite shooting a three-over par score of 287 in the final round, the Walters State golf team could not hold off host Tusculum to capture the Bob Dibble Fall Classic title Tuesday afternoon at Link Hills Country Club.

 

The Senators led by two shots entering the final round, but the Pioneers shot an even-par score of 284 as a team to claim the tournament championship by a single stroke. Tusculum's two-day score was 13-over par 581, followed by Walters State at 14-over par 582.

 

Emory & Henry finished third at 606, followed by Lincoln Memorial at 607 and Roane State at 700 in the five-team event.

 

Alex Hodge paced the Senators with a two-day score of one-under par 141 (73-68) to finish second in the individual standings behind Emory & Henry's Wesley Jones (70-68–138).

 

Elliott Smith tied for fourth with a total of three-over par 145 (74-71), while Hunter Blanken tallied a top 10 finish by ending up in a tie for seventh place with a five-over par 147 (74-73). Dane Rheinecker was just outside of the top 10, finishing 11th with a score of seven-over par 149 (74-75), and Stephen Owen was 16th after firing a score of 11-over par 153 (78-75).

 

The Senators will return to the links on Monday, Oct. 1 for a two-day tournament at The Orchard Golf & Country Club in Clarkesville, Georgia, as WSCC will compete in the Piedmont Fall Invitational.
