Senators finish sixth at Rendleman Invitational

SALISBURY, N.C. — The Walters State golf team finished in sixth place in its first tournament of the spring schedule Tuesday afternoon at the Richard Rendleman Invitational held at The Country Club of Salisbury in North Carolina.

 

The Senators finished with a two-day total of 624 after firing a 305 in the closing round on Tuesday. Cape Fear was the winning team at 579, followed by Lenoir-Rhyne at 584, Belmont Abbey B (596), Montevallo (604) and host Catawba (606) in the top five.

 

Walters State was trailed by Pfeiffer (632), Davis & Elkins (651), Belmont Abbey C (669) and Chowan (682) in the 10-team field.

 

Alex Hodge, after holding the first round lead, finished in eighth place at 144 (70-74) to pace WSCC, while Andrew Linkous was tied for 30th at 157 (81-76). Dane Rheinecker was tied for 38th place at 159 (82-77), while Hunter Blanken was 45th at 165 (87-78) and Christofer Schaff was 50th at 169 (85-84).

 

Cape Fear's Justin Morgan (74-68) and Ryan Graybar (73-69) tied for first place at 142, with Morgan winning the individual medalist honor in a playoff.

 

The Senators will return to the link on March 16-17 to take part in the Tusculum Invitational at Links Hills Country Club in Greeneville.
