Walters State ran through a three-team final to take third place in the Bob Dibble Match Play Classic with a score of 15 in the skins game format, beating Lincoln Memorial's B squad's score of 12 and Wingate's B team's 11 Sunday at Graysburg Hills Golf Club in Chuckey, Tenn.
The Senators took at least a tie three of the five matches, with Sophomore Andrew Linkous (Cleveland, Tenn.) shooting past LMU's Eli Cox and Wingate's Darius Chaveauz-Gions 3-1-1 in group one.
Freshman Chad Homan (Knoxville, Tenn.) blew by Wingate's Wesley Simmons and the Railsplitters' Tyler Harvey, 5-2-1 in group two. Group four saw a tie between Walters State sophomore Stephen Owen (Rogersville, Tenn.) and Lincoln Memorial's Andrew Briggs, 4-4. The Bulldogs' Anthony Parziale scored a 2.
Wingate's Christian Pickeral edged by Senators freshman Ty Sauceman (Greeneville,Tenn.) and LMU's Sam Stedman, 4-1-0 in group three.
The Railsplitters surged away with group five, with Zane Potter winning 6-2-1 over Wingate's James Whittaker and Walters State freshman Zach Wood (Greeneville, Tenn.).
Lincoln Memorial's A squad will face off against King in the championship round Monday at Graysburg Hills Golf Club.
Walters State will hit the links again on Sep. 7 in the Lincoln Memorial University Tournament at Woodlake Golf and Country Club in Tazewell, Tenn.
