Rinehart, Spoone in top three after opening round of Maryville College Invite

MARYVILLE, TN – Walters State opened up their golf season on Monday with the first round of the Maryville College Invite, sitting in fourth place as a team after the opening round. 

 

The Senators shot a 23-over, 311, and are six shots back of Bob Jones University and Hampden-Sydney College who are in a tie for second place at 17-over. Point University leads the tournament with a 7-over, 295.

 

AJ Rinehart picked up where he left off after a strong freshman season last year with an even-par, 72, on Monday that was good enough to put him in second place. Rinehart shot a one-under on the front nine, birdieing holes three and six, and shot one-over on the back nine, birdieing hole 10.

 

Along with Rinehart, Sawyer Spoone is in the top-three after a 2-over, 74, performance. Spoone birdied holes one and three on the front nine and hole 12 on the back nine. He's in a tie for third place. 

 

Finishing third for the Senators after the opening round was Jeremy Ellis who is in a tie for 22nd after a 7-over, 79. Ellis birdied the ninth hole. 

 

Rounding out the scoring for Walters State was Ashton Pratt (T-56) with a 14-over and Connor Price (T-67) with an 18-over. Pratt birdied the 13th hole while Price had a birdie on the third hole. 

 

Point University's Jacob Joseph is in first place after shooting a 4-under, 68.
