Walters State leads Alice Lloyd Spring Invitational after opening round

RICHMOND, KY – Walters State came out red-hot on Saturday afternoon in the opening round of the Alice Lloyd Invitational.

 

Battling a wet golf course, the Senators top-four golfers each shot one-under on the front-nine. That was good enough to put Walters State in first place after the first round, finishing at seven-over (287) as a team. 

 

Walters State has a four-shot lead on second-place Kentucky State. 

 

Individually, Ian Kinsey is in a tie for first place at one-under. Nick Talley is just one shot back at even-par and is in fourth-place. 

 

Kinsey led the way for Walters State on the day, shooting a one-under, 69. Kinsey birdied holes one, three, eight and 15 and then eagled the 518-yard par-5 11th. Kinsey shot a one-under on the front-nine and even-par on the final nine holes.

 

Along with Kinsey, Talley shot an even-par, 70. Talley had birdies on one, three and 10. He shot one-under on the front-nine and a one-over on the back-nine. 

 

Other golfers for the Walters State team were Bowen Brantley (T8), Sloan Brooks (T14) and Jonas Rayfield (T67). Brantley finished the day with a three-over, 73, after shooting one-under on the front-nine. Brantley birdied hole seven.

 

Meanwhile, Brooks also shot one-under on the front-nine and finished with a five-over, 75. Brooks birdied the first and ninth holes. Lastly, Rayfield finished the day with an 18-over, 88. 

 

Jack Leach also took the course on Saturday, playing as an individual. Leach shot a 16-over, 86. Leach had a birdie on the first hole and is in 64th place.

Walters State will be back in action for the final day of the Alice Lloyd Spring Invitational on Sunday.
