Senators win Bill Gardner Fall Preview, Greyson Smith captures individual title
MORRISTOWN, TN – The Walters State golf team had three players finish in the top five in the Bill Gardner Fall Preview, and the Senators took home the title by 11 shots.
On Tuesday, Walters State shot 302 as a team to finish the tournament at 18-over. Tusculum finished in second place at 29-over.
Additionally, Greyson Smith won the tournament's individual title with a two-day score of 4-over. Smith opened the day in ninth place but shot 1-over in rainy conditions, birdieing the eighth hole and finishing with just two bogeys.
Finishing in the top five for Walters State with Smith were Maddox Butler and Ayden Smith, both coming in a tie for second at 5-over. Butler shot 3-over on Tuesday with birdies on holes four, seven and 10, while Ayden Smith shot 8-over.
Also finishing in the top 10 was Alex Gaetz, coming in sixth place at 7-over. Gaetz shot five-over in his final round and had birdies on the third and sixth holes.
Rounding out the team was Brant Kardatzke in 20th place at 14-over. Shooting a 5-over on Tuesday, Kardatzke birdied the first and fifth holes.
The Senators B Team also participated and finished in fifth place at 65-over. Leading the way for them was Blake Dawson in 20th place at 14-over and Austin Williams in 26th place at 16-over. Dawson shot 7-over on Tuesday with back-to-back birdies on holes four and five, while Williams shot 11-over on the day with a birdie on hole three.
Tucker McLain and Bryce Guinn were next for the Walters State B Team, coming in a tie for 37th place at 21-over. McLain shot 8-over on Tuesday with birdies on one and seven and an eagle on the par-5 5th. Meanwhile, Guinn shot 18-over in Tuesday's final round.
Rounding out the team was Owen King in 45th place at 24-over. King shot 15-over on Tuesday, with back-to-back birdies on holes 15 and 16.
Playing as an individual, Bo Atkins finished the tournament in 32nd place at 19-over. Atkins shot 9-over in his final round, with a birdie on the fifth.
