Farmer announces inaugural cross country schedule

MORRISTOWN, Tenn. — Walters State head cross country coach Raymond Farmer has announced the schedule for the inaugural season this fall for the Senators and Lady Senators.

 

The season will begin on Saturday, Aug. 24, when Walters State hosts the Panther Creek Invitational at Panther Creek State Park in Morristown, with the first runners toeing the starting line at 10:45 a.m.

 

From there, Walters State will race in the Zaxby's Invitational at Holston Home in Greeneville on Friday, Sept. 6, at 6:40 p.m. before following that race up with the SCSDB Eye Opener on Friday, Sept. 13, at 6:15 p.m. at the Roger Milliken Center in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

 

The third race of September will take place two weeks later, as the Senators and Lady Senators compete in the Maryville Invitational in Blount County on Sept. 27.

 

In October, Walters State will participate in the Lenoir-Rhyne Classic in Newton, North Carolina, with a 4:45 p.m. start time on Friday, Oct. 18, in the final regular season meet of the season.

 

Walters State will compete in the TCCAA/NJCAA Region VII meet in hopes of qualifying for the NJCAA nationals. The date and location of the regional are yet to be announced, while the nationals will be held on Saturday, Nov. 9, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

 

Farmer will be assisted this season by David Haas. Farmer was the architect of the highly successful Morristown West High School cross country program before taking the job at Walters State, and Haas helped prepare West's athletes as the head cross country coach at West View Middle School prior to this season.
