Men finish sixth, women seventh at Zaxby’s Open

Greeneville, Tenn.— It was a tough day all around for the Walters State Cross Country squads Friday, but freshman Jade Mattison (Morristown, Tenn.) did notch a Top 20 finish in the women's side, as the Lady Senators finished in seventh place with a score of 142. Milligan College took the top spot, with a score of 25 at the Zaxby's Open hosted by Tusculum University at Holston Home in Greeneville, Tenn.

 

Mattison laid down a time of 23:39.1 in the Women's 5K, good enough for 19th.

 

Freshman Chance Collins (Seymour, Tenn.) was the top finisher for Walters State on the men's side in a sixth-place result and score of 149. Milligan completed the sweep, winning the men's points standings with a score of 34.

 

Collins 5K time of 18:26.0 was good enough for a 23rd place finish Friday.

 

For the Lady Senators, freshman Shyanne McKinney (Morristown, Tenn.) put down a time of 23:47.8 to finish 22nd. Freshman Karli Yarid (Morristown, Tenn.) was 27th with 24:53.2, freshman Lindsey Seagle (Jefferson City, Tenn.) was 37th at 27:01.0, freshman Daniela Medina (Morristown, Tenn.) finished with a time of 31:56.6 and freshman Breanna Scearce (Washburn, Tenn.) rounded out the field at 45th with a time of 34:38.8.

 

After Collins, freshman Christopher Gaby (Morristown, Tenn.) ran a time of 19:21.0, good enough for 29th. Freshman Nicholas Noble (Morristown, Tenn.) ran a 19:44.0 for 33rd, freshman Jacob Manning (Clinton, Tenn.) was 36th with 20:19.7, freshman Keven Perez-Padilla (Newport, Tenn.) was 40th at 20:34.2, freshman Austin Coffman (Washburn, Tenn.) was 43rd with a 21:11.3 and Andy Villagran (Sevierville, Tenn.) was 47th with a time of 21:47.6.

 

Walters State will next be in action at the Roger Miliken Center next Friday at 5:45 p.m. and 6:15 p.m.
