Resendiz breaks course record to win Walters State Half Marathon

MORRISTOWN, TN – Walters State's Brando Resendiz was a man on a mission Saturday morning during the 3rd annual Walters State Half Marathon.

 

Resendiz kept a steady pace from the start and never slowed down as he took home first place, breaking the course record by 10 minutes in the process. 

 

Resendiz finished with a time of 1:16:57 for the 13.1 miles. The previous record was held by Ryan Sadlon, who ran 1:26:33 at last year's race. 

 

On the women's side, Julianne Dodson finished in first place with a time of 1:51:56. 

 

Following Resendiz, Derek Gibson, who ran unattached, finished with a time of 1:24:41. The Senators Sam Hall finished in third place with a time of 1:36:16. 

 

Walters State President Tony Miksa finished in fourth place in the race with a time of 1:37:50. Rounding out the men were Caden Chambers in fifth with a time of 1:49:23.

 

Along with Dodson on the women's side, Molly Wright and Emily Wright both ran the entire 13.1 miles. Molly Wright finished with a time of 2:09:53 while Emily Wright finished with a time of 2:12:59.

 

The Lady Senators also raced a relay team that consisted of Amelia Weeks, Emma Hamilton and Rachel Jarnigan. The trio finished in seventh with a combined time of 1:57:28. 

 

Up Next:

 

Both teams will be back in action next Saturday as they take part in the Berry College Invitational in Rome, GA. The women run a 6K at 10 a.m. while the men run an 8K at 9 a.m.
