Senators, Lady Senators compete at Eye Opener
SPARTANBURG, SC – The Walters State men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Eye Opener in Spartanburg, SC on Friday evening.
Taking on NCAA DI programs such as Clemson and Furman, the Senators finished in ninth place. The Lady Senators had four runners compete, as well.
The men's race was an 8k while the women ran a 5k.
Leading the way for the Senators was Gavin Slagle in 64th place with a time of 27:10. Gage Slagle was next for Walters State in 79th place with a time of 28:14, and Evan Miller finished in 82nd place with a time of 28:21.
The fourth finisher for Walters State was Sam Runyan in 108th place with a time of 31:06, and Edgar Martinez was right behind him in 109th place with a time of 31:08. Rounding out the team were David Baker in 112th place with a time of 31:42, Walter Kledzik in 122nd place with a time of 38:29 and Parker Minor in 123rd place with a time of 39:35.
On the women's side, Aislynn Hurley led the way in 78th place with a time of 22:13. Hurley's time was three minutes faster than her finish last week. Along with Hurley, Allie Swann finished in 98th place with a time of 24:13. Swann's time was also three minutes faster than last week.
Rounding out the Lady Senators were Ava Curry in 108th with a time of 27:49 and Carmen Sedighi in 109th place with a time of 27:50. It was Sedighi's first race of the season.

Walters State will be back in action next Friday, Sept. 5, at the Bruins Night Invitational in Greenville, SC. The women's race starts at 8:15 pm ET with the men's race scheduled to start at 8:45 pm ET.
