Lady Senators fall to No. 6 Central Florida, bounce back against Thomas University JV

DOTHAN, Ala. — Hits were hard to come by in Walters State's 8-0 mercy-rule loss to No. 6-ranked Central Florida to open the Chipola College Tournament Friday. The Lady Senators bounced back in a big way in their second game, recording 15 hits in a dominating 12-5 victory over the Thomas University Junior Varsity squad to end the day's action.

 

Walters State (3-1) got its lone hit in game one in the second inning as freshman Macey Hefner put the ball into the outfield. Morgan Riffle (1-1) was stuck with  the loss in the pitchers circle with three innings, seven hits, six runs, a walk and three strikeouts. Kenna Kap finished up the game with two innings, three hits, two runs, one walk and two Ks.

 

Central Florid took a commanding lead early thanks to a six-run second inning thanks to base hits from Isabella Pinto, Odalys Cordova, Caroline Jacquay. Molly Shutters and Olivia Simon.

 

WSCC got its bat on the ball, only recording three strikeouts combined in the contest, the Lady Senators just couldn't find a way to sneak a hit past the infield after Hefner's tap.

 

Walters State didn't have any such problems against Thomas University in game two. After plating two runs in the second and third innings, the Lady Senators blew the game open with a five-run fifth that had TU fighting to stave off the mercy rule.

 

Sydney Dukes finished 3-of-5 with two RBIs in the game. Hefner and Hayley Parrot were 2-of-3 with two RBIs apiece. Jessica Odom finished 2-of-4 with two RBIs.

 

Alexis Duff (1-0) claimed the pitching win with four innings work. She gave up five hits, three runs and recorded three strikeouts. Kap, getting in three more innings, pocketed her first save of the season with four hits, two runs, two walks and two strikeouts.

The Lady Senators continue their Chipola Tournament run, facing off against Snead State Saturday at 10 a.m., then follow that with a match up against Tallahassee Community College at noon.
