Lady Senators take two on day two of the Chipola College Tournament, downing Snead State and Tallahassee

DOTHAN, Ala. — Feeding off their win from Friday afternoon, the Walters State softball team swept their double-header on Saturday, defeating Snead State 8-7 and Tallahassee 11-2 in five innings.

 

With the wins, the Lady Senators improve to 5-1 on the season and finish 3-1 in the Chipola College Tournament.

 

Morgan Riffle got the start in game one for Walters State, throwing four innings, allowing four runs on eight hits and striking out eight. Kenna Kap (3-0) picked up her second win of the season, replacing Riffle and throwing three innings, striking out three.

 

Offensively, the Lady Senators were led by Macey Hefner, who had three hits, two doubles, a home run and four RBI. Hefner's home run was part of a five run third inning for Walters State.

 

Jenica Brown, Sydney Fox, Alexis Duff and Kallyn Newport all had two hits. Newport had three RBIs and scored a run.

 

Down 7-6 going to the bottom of the seventh, Walters State walked it off when Newport singled in the tying run and Hefner doubled home the winning score.

 

Walters State kept the bats going in game two, scoring 11 runs in five innings. The Lady Senators scored five in the first and four in the third.

 

Hayley Parrott led the charge for Walters State with three hits and two RBIs. Hanna Taylor and Heffner each had two RBIs, while Sydney Fox hit her first home run of the season. The Lady Senators totaled 14 hits in the game. Four players finished with two hits.

 

Following her second win of the season, Kap kept the momentum going on the mound in game two, pitching a complete game, allowing two runs on six hits and striking out one.

The Lady Senators will be back in action next Friday, February 8, in the Sun Chief Classic in Gulf Shores. Walters State takes on Gulf Coast State at 10 a.m. and Central Alabama Community college at 12:15 p.m.
