COLUMBIA, Tenn. — Bouncing back from their first TCCAA loss in over two years, Walters State made an emphatic statement Saturday afternoon, blowing out Columbia State 93-49 on their home floor.
The Lady Senators (13-8, 10-1 TCCAA) put four players in double figures in the game. Both Alexis Trice and Paris Mullins scored 14 points apiece. Kiera Hill contributed 12 points off the bench and Jamya Rogers put in 11.
The game was never in doubt from the opening whistle as WSCC began the contest with an 11-3 run. By the time the first period ended, the Lady Senators were up 23-8 and had held the Chargers scoreless for the final two minutes of the frame.
Columbia State did claw its way a little closer in the second thanks to a three from Keiah Dancy and a layup from Diamond Cannon, but two Mullins free throws ended any hopes of a run.
Walters State took a 37-28 lead into the locker room at halftime and it just got uglier from there as the Chargers were held to a single digit score in the third and just 21 total points in the final 20 minutes of play.
WSCC shot 52.8 percent from the floor in the game and outrebounded Columbia State 37-18. The Lady Senators forced 25 turnovers while just turning it over themselves 13 times.
Columbia State was led with 18 points from Dancy. Michelle Vaughn and Treshonda Williams scored 11 apiece.
