Lady Senators can’t keep up in loss to Pensacola State

PENSACOLA, FL – No. 21 Walters State closed out their time in Florida on Sunday afternoon, falling to host Pensacola State 68-33.

 

With the loss, Walters State fell to 6-2 on the season.

 

Izarria Alexander was the leading scorer in the game for the Lady Senators with nine points. Along with Alexander, Maiya Reed, Kailyn Farrell and Tyasia Reed all had five points. Other scorers for Walters State were Asia Barr with four, Rose Morrow with four and Matty Tanner with one. 

 

It was a strong start for the Lady Senators as they scored on their first two possessions of the game to go up 4-0. Farrell and Maiya Reed made shots. Following a 3-pointer by Pensacola State, Walters State would score again on a 3-point play by Alexander that made it 7-3. Unfortunately for Walters State, Pensacola State would end the quarter on 19-2 run and led 22-9 after one. 

 

In the second quarter, Walters State once again scored on their first two possessions as Farrell hit a 3-pointer and Reed scored. However, Pensacola State locked back in and held Walters State to just three more points in the quarter, on a 3-pointer by Morrow. It was 36-17 at the break. 

 

In the second half, it was more of the same as Pensacola State scored 21 points in the third quarter to lead 58-28 after three. Walters State scored 11 points in the quarter as Tyasia Reed had five points.

 

In the fourth, both teams struggled to score as 15 total points were scored. Pensacola scored 10 of them as they took home the victory.

Walters State will be back in action on Wednesday as they travel to take on Motlow State. Tip is set for 6:30 p.m.
