Hill, Oxendine Power Lady Senators past Covenant College

Lookout Mountain, Ga. —  Freshman Jania Hill (Morristown, Tenn.) hammered down 11 kills and freshman Olivia Oxendine (Pensacola, Fla.) fired off nine as Walters State cruised through Covenant College in a 3-0 straight set victory Friday night at the Barnes Physical Education Center (25-12, 24-21, 25-18).

The Lady Senators (8-4) haven't dropped a set in two consecutive games and have won three of their last four.

Walters State took off early in the first match, winning 25-12 before the Scots knew what hit them. Covenant bounced back in game two, but couldn't hold off the Lady Senators, who took it home 25-21.

The final frame was again dominated by Walters State as they won 25-18 to claim the match victory.

It was an efficient night for the Lady Senators, who recorded 39 kills as a team with just 17 errors. Freshman Amanda Singleton (Knoxville, Tenn.) had a dominant evening at the service line. She served 18 times, with just two errors and three aces. The next closest Walters State player was freshman Taylor Tigue (Franklin, Tenn.), who recorded nine serves.

Hill and Oxendine did the heavy lifting scoring, but freshman Alaysia McGhee (Knoxville, Tenn.) recorded six kills of her own. Sophomore Courtney Dotson (Greeneville, Tenn.) had four.

Singleton added eight digs, Dotson nine and freshman Gracie Smith (Church Hill, Tenn.) recorded eight.

The Lady Senators are back in action Tuesday when they begin TJCCAA conference play hosting Cleveland State Community College at 'Z' Buda Gymnasium. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
