Lady Senators sweep away Montreat College JV, 3-0

Montreat, N.C. — A dominant day in the backcourt doomed Montreat College Junior Varsity as Walters State recorded 48 digs as a team in a 3-0 sweep over the Cavaliers (25-19, 25-20, 25-19).

It was the second win in a row for the Lady Senators (12-5) and the sixth consecutive set victory. The Lady Senators have lost just one game and dropped just three sets in their last seven contests.

Sophomore Alexis Wakefield (Portland, Tenn.) led the way with 14 digs as every point counted in the tight contest. Montreat's defense at the net kept Walters State from putting on their usual killshot display, holding them to just eight percent in the first set, 22 in the second and 15.4 in the third.

Freshman Olivia Oxendine (Pensacola, Fla.) led WSCC with eight kills. Sophomore Courtney Dotson (Greeneville, Tenn.) recorded five kills. Freshman Taylor Tigue (Franklin, Tenn.) and freshman Alaysia McGhee (Knoxville, Tenn.) had four apiece.

Freshman Amanda Singleton (Knoxville, Tenn.) broke out the shovel for eight digs in the back court to go with her 12 assists. Dotson put up eight with five assists and freshman Jania Hill (Morristown, Tenn.) had six digs.

The Lady Senators are back in action on their home floor at 'Z'Buda Gymnasium Wednesday for a 6 p.m. match up with Covenant College. Walters State is undefeated at home this year and previously swept Covenant 3-0 back on Sep. 13 in Lookout Mountain, Ga.
