Bio
Derek Creech is in his eighth year as Athletic Director at Walters State Community College.
Joining in October of 2017, Creech has overseen an Athletic Department that has won 32 Region 7 Championships and made 34 NJCAA National Tournament appearances. Walters State finished as NJCAA National Runner-Ups three times (Baseball 2018 and 2025, Golf 2019) since Creech has been in charge.
Creech has also added three programs to the Walters State Athletics Department since taking over, men’s cross country, women’s cross country and esports.
Creech is the Region 7 (TCCAA) Athletic Director Chair and sits on both the NJCAA DI Baseball and NJCAA DII Volleyball Committees.
Creech came to Walters State following seven years at Morristown West High School, where he was the head boy’s basketball coach. Before Morristown West, Creech was a men’s basketball assistant coach at Walters State, serving under Bill Carlyle from 2005-10. During that time, the Senators made the NJCAA DI Tournament three times and the 2007-08 team won a school record 32 games.
A native of Morristown, Creech graduated from Morristown East High School before receiving his Bachelor’s Degree from East Tennessee State University. Derek is married to his wife, Angie, and they have three daughters Abbie, Kailie and Lacie.
