No. 11 Senators pound Milligan College JV, 24-5

No. 11 Senators pound Milligan College JV, 24-5

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. — Walters State wasted little time in ensuring they'd stretch their current win streak to three Wednesday night. The No. 11 Senators plated 12 runs in the second inning in a 24-5 blowout win over Milligan College Junior Varsity.

It was a monster day at the plate for WSCC (8-4), who recorded seven doubles, two triples, a homer and 22 RBIs as a team.

First baseman Bryce Hodge led the way with a 2-for-3 day and four RBIs. Designated hitter Max Riemer went 2-for-5 with three RBIs. Parker Stinnett, Matthew Ellis, Seth Gardner, Paul Moore and Logan Hullette all knocked in two runners apiece.

Turning the scoreboard into a pinball machine allowed the Senators to loosen up plenty of arms in the game. Starter Hudson Ross (1-0) took the official victory with a single inning, giving up one hit and a walk while recording a strikeout. No WSCC pitcher went longer than a single frame as nine men took the hill for Walters State. As a unit, the Senators gave up five hits, five runs and seven walks while notching 14 strikeouts.

Not only did the Senators empty their bullpen, but they cleared the dugout as well as 14 different players got multiple at-bats in the game, with all but one recording at least one hit.

Leading 15-0 after two, the game calmed for a while as the teams traded zeroes for the next four innings. In the top of the seventh, Houlette picked up one of his RBIs for the Senators knocking in Alberto Osuna.

That run sparked a scoring splurge for both teams as Milligan put up their only runs in the bottom of the seventh, and WSCC put in two runs in the eighth and six more in the ninth.

Noah Fleming was stuck with the loss for the Milligan JV squad, going 1.1 innings with eight hits, 12 runs, five walks and one strikeout.
