
MORRISTOWN, TN – Three pitchers combined to throw a no-hitter for No. 13 Walters State in game two of a doubleheader against USC Union on Tuesday, as the Senators picked up 20-5 and 12-0 wins.
With the victories, the Senators improved to 25-5-1 on the season.
GAME ONE: No. 13 Walters State 20, USC Union 5 (5 Innings)
In game one, the Senators scored 17 runs in the first two innings to take the win.
Hayden Blair led the way for Walters State in the game with four RBIs, while Taylor Harris drove in four runs as well. Justin Bell hit two doubles and had two RBIs, while Jack Vogele doubled twice and had two RBIs. Atticus Goodson also drove in three runs.
On the mound, Rowan Park got the start and threw 2.1 innings. Park allowed four runs on four hits while striking out four. Brayden Blankenship got the next two outs for Walters State, allowing a run on one hit, before Ryder Moye (1-0) struck out two in an inning of work. Tyler Peterson pitched the final inning, striking out two while allowing just one hit.
The Senators got on the board first in the bottom of the opening inning, as a hit by pitch scored Kole Fenton, a fielder's choice scored Vogele, a Blair double drove in two, a Harris sacrifice fly scored Blair and a Bell double scored Carson Cabbage to make it 6-0.
USC Union answered with three runs in the top of the second, but Walters State scored 11 runs in the bottom half to go up 17-3. Those runs came on a bases-loaded walk that scored Tyler Myatt, a Blair two-RBI single, a Harris three-RBI double, a Bell RBI double, a Vogele two-RBI double, an error that scored Vogele and a Walker Morgan sacrifice fly that drove in Myatt.
USC Union scored two more runs in the top of the third, but the Senators responded with three in the bottom of the inning. Myatt got things going with a two-RBI single, and Goodson drove in the 20th run on a bases-loaded walk that scored Jack Torbett.
GAME TWO: No. 13 Walters State 12, USC Union 0 (5 Innings)
In game two, Gage Peterson, Matthew Porchas and Reilly Byers combined to throw a no-hitter.
Peterson (3-2) got the start in the game and threw three innings. Peterson struck out five and issued just one walk. Porchas pitched the fourth inning, striking out two and walking one, before Byers struck out two in the fifth inning.
At the plate, Vogele hit a grand slam and drove in six more runs while Myatt hit his 13th home run of the season and drove in two runs. Holden Pantier had two hits and two RBIs, as well.
The Senators scored two in the first to get things going, as Pantier hit an RBI single to score Vogele and Nate Conner. The lead grew to 4-0 in the second on an RBI single by Vogele that scored Conner and Torbett, and it was 6-0 one batter later as Myatt smashed a two-run homer.
The final six runs for Walters State came in the third as Torbett singled home a run, Vogele crushed a grand slam and Brantley Bamberg flew out but scored Pantier to make it 12-0.
From there, the pitchers got the job done to complete the no-hitter.
