Senators roll past North American, 113-76

HANCEVILLE, Ala. — Walters State had five players reach double figures and 10 players score at least 6 points in trouncing North American University 113-76 Friday evening in the opening day of the Wallace State Invitational held at Wallace State Community College.

 

Kajuan Hale led the Senators with 16 points in the contest, while Miles Thomas and Jaden Lewis both added 14 and Khiry Shelton and Kendall Winston both and 13 in leading WSCC to its fourth straight win, as the Senators improved to 7-2 on the year.

 

Deontae Davis added 9 points and 10 rebounds in the contest, while Josh Dykes, Paris Taylor and Kamari Barnes each added 6 points in the victory. All 13 players for Walters State scored in the contest.

 

The Senators had a balanced scoring effort in the fist half, with 12 players scoring in the frame to help Walters State take a 53-42 lead into halftime after shooting better than 56 percent in the opening 20 minutes.

 

In the second half, the Senators shot better than 57 percent and held North American to just 36 percent in the final 20 minutes, as Walters State held a 60-34 scoring advantage in the half to break the game open.

 

The Senators shot a blistering 56.8 percent (46 of 81) from the field in the win, making 5 of 10 from long distance and 16 of 18 at the charity stripe, and they held a 48-19 advantage on the glass, including an 18-6 edge on the offensive boards.

 

North American shot 40.6 percent (26 of 64) from the floor, making 10 of 34 on 3-point shots and 14 of 15 at the foul line. Trey Marsh gunned in a game-high 22 points and Payton Stewart added 21 in the loss.

 

The Senators will be back in action Saturday afternoon with a 3 p.m. battle against Coastal Alabama-East before returning home for a tilt with Tennessee Wesleyan's junior varsity squad.
