Senators fall on last second shot at Maryville College

MARYVILLE, Tenn. — Walters State failed to hit a 3-point shot and ultimately fell victim to one big trey Tuesday night in an 80-78 loss to Maryville College's junior varsity squad inside Maryville's Boydson H. Baird Gymnasium.

Preston Tomlinson scored 15 points for the homestanding Scots, but none were bigger than his final three, as the freshman drained a triple at the horn to lift the home team to the surprising victory over the Senators. Maryville was coached in the game by Morristown native and Morristown West High School graduate Sean Jones.

Demontay Dixon led the Senators with 23 points, while Khiry Shelton added 17, Kajuan Hale had 12 and Miles Thomas finished with 11 in the defeat.

Walters State will be back in action this weekend for a pair of Tennessee Community College Athletic Association games inside 'Z' Buda Gymnasium. The Senators will look to end a three-game skid Friday when they host the Columbia State Chargers at 5:30 p.m. before taking on the Jackson State Green Jays Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
