Senators in second at NJCAA District J Tournament

BRASELTON, Ga. — Abraham Baldwin holds a six-stroke lead over Walters State after the first round of the NJCAA District J Men's Golf Championship held at Chateau Elon Resort on Tuesday.

 

The Stallions posted a 303 team score to move ahead of the Senators' score of 309. The two teams distanced themselves from the rest of the field and set up a two-team race for the district title in Wednesday's final round. Georgia Military sits in third place with a score of 323. Surry (NC) is fourth at 332 and rounding out the field was the Oxford College of Emory University (335), Cleveland State (339) and Patrick Henry (343). Players from Johnston Community College, Roane State Community College and Davidson County Community College had players participate in the event but the teams are not eligible for the national tournament.  

 

The leaderboard is tight as the final round will commence on Wednesday morning with Will Bozeman of Abraham Baldwin holding a one-stroke lead at 71 over teammate Adam Park. Bozeman had a birdie on the first hole and then finished strong on the front nine as he birdied holes eight and nine. Bozeman also birded 14 on his way to carding a 71.

 

Andrew Linkous and Dane Rheinecker of Walters State are tied for third place with scores of 74. Rounding out the Walters State scoring were Alex Hodge, who is tied for ninth (79), Stephen Owen is tied for 15th (82), and Hunter Blaken is tied for 25th (86).

 

The teams who finish in the top two spots and the top five individuals advance to the NJCAA National Championship at Swan Lake Indiana National in Plymouth, Indiana on May 21-24.
