
BLUEFIELD, VA – Walters State and Columbia College (SC) went to two playoff holes on Tuesday at the Fincastle Intercollegiate, with the Koalas edging the Senators on the second hole.
The teams went back-and-forth on the final two holes of the second round before heading to the playoff. With the teams deadlocked, Nick Talley birdied hole 17 to give Walters State a one-shot advantage. After Columbia birdied on 18 to tie things back up, Blake Woody birdied 18 for Walters State to give them a one shot lead back.
However, Columbia's Blake Vaughn birdied 18 to send the two teams to a playoff. Vaughn shot nine-under to win the tournament.
As a team, Walters State shot 291 in Tuesday's second round to finish at 580 for the tournament.
Talley was excellent on Tuesday and led Walters State, finishing the tournament in second-place at three-under. Talley shot two-under in his final round, shooting even-par on the front-nine before rallying off three birdies on the back-nine and bogeying just one hole. Talley's birdies came on holes 11, 15 and 17.
Woody finished in a tie for ninth-place for the Senators at seven-over. Woody shot a five-over, 75, on Tuesday with a birdie on the 11th-hole and the clutch birdie on the 18th to finish off his round.
In a tie for 12th-place was Bowen Brantley at eight-over. For the second straight day, Brantley shot a four-over. In his second round, he birdied holes five and 17.
Also in a tie for 12th-place at eight-over was Sloan Brooks. Brooks started the day slow, with double bogeys on holes two and three, but played consistent golf the rest of the day to finish at four-over for the round. Brooks had birdies on holes four and 11.
Jonas Rayfield was the final golfer for the Senators, finishing in a tie for 23rd-place at 14-over. Rayfield shot a seven-over, 77, on Tuesday with a birdie on the 13th-hole.
Playing as an individual, Alex Gaetz finished the tournament at 16-over after shooting an 11-over, 81, on Tuesday. Gaetz had a birdie on the 17th-hole.
