Maryville, Tenn. — Freshman Jade Mattison (Morristown, Tenn.) put down a time of 28:08.3 on her way to an eighth place individual finish and a third place Walters State women's team finish in the Maryville College Invitational Cross Country Meet at Maryville College.
On the men's side, freshman Chance Collins (Seymour, Tenn.) took 20th with a time of 31:02.5 to put the Senators in fourth place among the five-team field. The Walters State men finished with a score of 95, besting Warren Wilson, who scored a 121. Cleveland State took the top spot with a 32. Covenant College finished at 35.
Freshman Christopher Gaby (Morristown, Tenn.) ran a time of 32:22.4, good enough for a 26th place finish. Freshman Keven Perez-Padilla ran a 33:32.1 for 30th, sophomore Andy Villigran (Sevierville, Tenn.) ran a 34:02.8 for 33rd, freshman Jacob Manning (Clinton, Tenn.) a 34:50.8 for 37th, freshman Austin Coffman (Washburn, Tenn.) a 35:46.6 for 43rd and freshman Nicholas Noble (Morristown, Tenn.) ran a 37:34.5 for 46th.
The Lady Senators topped Cleveland State on their side of the bracket to take home third place in the team standings with a score of 77. Cleveland State scored an 87. Covenant College took the top spot with a 27 and race host Maryville College finished second with 50.
Mattison wasn't the only Lady Senator to notch a Top 20 finish. Sophomore Karli Yarid (Morristown, Tenn.) ran a 29:25.1 for 17th place. Freshman Shyanne McKinney (Morristown, Tenn.) ran a 30:49.1 for 25th, freshman Lindsey Seagle (Jefferson City, Tenn.) a 32:21.8 for 28th, freshman Breanna Scearce (Washburn, Tenn.) a 41:36.8 for 35th and freshman Daniela Medina (Morristown, Tenn.) a 41:55.9 for 36th.
Walters State will next lace up their running shoes for the Berry College Invitation in Rome, Ga. on Oct. 19.
