RICHMOND, VA – The Walters State cross country team closed out their season on Tuesday, competing in the NJCAA Half Marathon.
As a team, the Senators finished in 23rd-place while the Lady Senators came in 19th-place. The race featured DI, DII and DIII NJCAA Colleges.
On the men's side, Gideon Erwin led the way with a 69th-place finish and time of 1:16:06. It's the fastest time by a Senator at the NJCAA Half Marathon in program history.
Next up for Walters State was Juan Guillen in 137th-place with a time of 1:23:12. Edgar Martinez was third for Walters State in 151st with a time of 1:27:02.
Rounding out the team were Wade Walters in 164th-place with a time of 1:31:25, Sam Runyan in 167th-place with a time of 1:35:34, Ignacio Vargas Huipe in 168th-place with a time of 1:36:30, Parker Minor in 169th with a time of 1:40:38, Benjamin Eigenmann in 170th with a time of 1:42:03 and Walter Kledzik in 171st with a time of 1:45:33.
For the Lady Senators, Naomi Merrill finished in 81st-place to lead the way with a time of 1:45:53. Taylor Starnes was second for Walters State in 91st with a time of 1:50:31, and Cindy de Leon was third in 94th with a time of 1:51:44.
Rounding out the Lady Senators were McKayla Ruchala in 101st-place with a time of 1:54:51 and Ava Curry in 102nd with a time of 1:55:33.
