
MORRISTOWN, TN – Walters State picked up an 8-inning 9-8 walk off win in game two over No. 21 Volunteer State on Friday afternoon after falling 10-0 in game one.
With the split, the Lady Senators moved to 14-11 overall and 4-2 in TCCAA play.
GAME ONE: No. 21 Volunteer State 10, Walters State 0 (5 Innings)
In game one, the Lady Senators fell behind early and could not catch up.
Emma Myatt got the start in the circle and threw 4.2 innings, allowing 10 runs, six earned, on 10 hits while striking out six. Lauren Ruehl got the final out of the fifth inning.
At the plate, Nora Mack and Brooklyn Copley each recorded singles.
GAME TWO: Walters State 9, No. 21 Volunteer State 8 (8 Innings)
In game two, the Lady Senators got the bats going with 11 hits and walked things off in eight innings.
Alayna Ross hit two home runs and drove in three runs to lead the way for Walters State while Brooklyn Copley homered, as well. Along with those two, Addison Beech had two hits and two RBIs while Olivia Neese went a perfect 3-3 at the plate.
In the circle, Makayla Ramsey got the start and threw 5.2 innings. Ramsey gave up eight runs, seven earned, on four hits and struck out two. Summer Smith replaced Ramsey with two outs in the sixth and was excellent in relief, throwing 2.1 innings. Smith gave up no runs on two hits and struck out one.
Volunteer State struck for two runs in the first and another run in the top of the third to go up 3-0, but the Lady Senators responded with five runs in the bottom of the inning. Beech got things going with a two-RBI double and Ross gave the Lady Senators the lead with a two-run homer to make it 4-3. The final run of the inning came on an error that allowed Allie Seritt to score.
In the fifth, Walters State extended the lead as Ross hit a solo home run, Copley hit a solo home run right after and Imari Golden grounded out to score Seritt to make it 8-3.
However, Volunteer State tied the score with five runs in the sixth. That was the score until the eighth as Jaelyn McDaniel singled to lead things off, and Nesse followed up with a single. Beech then singled to load the bases, and a hard ground ball by Kendal Mason hit off the second baseman's glove and allowed the winning run to score.
