Huge fourth quarter pushes Walters State past Lady Cougars, 78-70

CLEVELAND, Tenn. — Holding a single-shot lead after three, Walters State poured in 27 points in the final frame to finish off Cleveland State 78-70 Wednesday night to notch their second straight TCCAA victory.

Paris Mullins finished with a game high 24 points. Jamya Rogers added 21 as the Lady Senators (15-9, 12-2 TCCAA) were able to pull away down the stretch.

WSCC controlled the action from the opening tip-off, starting the contest with a 6-0 run thanks to Mullins, Rogers and Vertonia Bady and would go into the first break with a 25-16 advantage.

The Lady Cougars would come to life over the next two quarters, battling back into the game. With two minutes left in the third, CSCC claimed its first lead on a Britnay Gore layup, 47-46. Two free throws from Blayre Shultz 11 seconds later would put Walters State back on top for good.

Nursing a three-point lead as the fourth period began, the Lady Senators finally got some breathing room on a Haley Comer layup. A tap-in from Rogers with 6:53 to go put WSCC up by five. Three minutes later three free throws from Mullins would put the game out of reach, 65-54.

The Lady Senators got 10 points off the bench from Alexis Trice. Shultz provided seven points with five coming at the free throw line.

CSCC was led by Charisma Barner's 19 points. Asjah Harrell scored 18 and Kyeshia Dalton put in 14.
