Farrell’s double-double leads Walters State over Roane State

MORRISTOWN, TN – Walters State's Kailyn Farrell was about as efficient as one can be on Wednesday evening against Roane State. 

 

In a key TCCAA matchup, Farrell totaled her fourth double-double of the season with 18 points and 14 rebounds in 26 minutes as the Lady Senators stayed unbeaten in conference play with a 71-40 over Roane State.

 

With the win, Walters State improved to 13-3 overall and 8-0 in TCCAA play.

 

"Kailyn did a really nice job for us tonight, finishing at the rim and pulling down rebounds," Walters State coach Jasmin Coleman said. "She was aggressive and did her job. I thought Rose (Morrow) was really strong off the bench and gave us energy, as well. We were just efficient tonight and were aggressive and smart on both ends of the floor. When you do that, it goes a long way." 

 

Along with Farrell, Izarria Alexander finished with 16 points while Tyasia Reed and Rose Morrow each added 14. Other scorers for Walters State were Asia Barr with five and Maiya Reed with four. Maiya Reed also had six assists, while Alexander had five assists and six rebounds.

 

As a team, Walters State shot an impressive 50% from the field (30-60) and grabbed 35 rebounds while assisting on 18 made shots. 

 

Defensively, the Lady Senators held Roane State to 29.1% from the field and forced 15 turnovers. Walters State allowed single digit point totals in both the first and second quarters. 

 

The first quarter set the tone for the Lady Senators as they scored 25 points and led 25-8. Tyasia Reed and Alexander each knocked down a 3-pointer and had nine points in the opening 10 minutes. Farrell grabbed seven rebounds in the quarter and had four points while Morrow knocked in a trey. Walters State made 11-of-19 shots in the opening 10 minutes. 

 

In the second quarter, the defense continued to go to work as they held Roane State to seven points and led 43-15 at the break. Farrell added six more points and two rebounds while Morrow had four points. Barr also knocked in a 3-pointer. As a team, the Lady Senators made seven of the 13 shots they took in the quarter.

 

Farrell continued her hard work in the paint in the third quarter as she scored half her team's points in the 10 minutes, totaling six points and four rebounds. Tyasia Reed also had four rebounds. It was 55-27 heading to the fourth quarter. 

 

The fourth quarter saw five Lady Senators score as they closed things out with the easy victory. Morrow had five points while Alexander added four.
