Lady Senators fall to Southwest Tennessee in final game of regular season

MEMPHIS, TN – No. 19 Walters State fell in their final game of the regular season on Monday evening, dropping a 49-45 contest to Southwest Tennessee. 

 

With the loss, Walters State fell to 22-4 on the season and 17-1 in TCCAA play.

 

Kailyn Farrell led the way for Walters State in the game with 14 points while Maiya Reed added nine points. Other scorers for Walters State were Rose Morrow with six, Asia Barr with five, Briontanay Marshall with five, Tyasia Reed with four and Izarria Alexander with two. 

 

It was a slow start for the Lady Senators in the game as they trailed 11-6 after one. Farrell had three points for Walters State.

 

In the second, both teams scored 10 points as Southwest led 21-16 at the half. Farrell added five more points while Morrow and Barr had two. 

 

In the third, the Lady Senators scored 10 more points but trailed 33-26 heading to the final 10 minutes. Farrell had four in the quarter while Maiya Reed and Tyasia Reed had the other four points. 

 

Walters State finally broke out of their slump in the fourth with 19 points but were not able to complete a comeback, falling by four points. Maiya Reed had seven points in the quarter while Marshall added four. Barr and Morrow each hit 3-pointers.

Walters State will begin play as the No.1 seed in the TCCAA/Region VII Tournament at Roane State on Saturday.
