HARRIMAN, TN – No. 19 Walters State advanced to the TCCAA/Region VII Semifinals with a 90-40 win over Volunteer State on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the top-seeded Lady Senators improved to 23-4 on the season and will play in the Semifinals on Monday at 12 p.m. Tyasia Reed was one of four Lady Senators in double figures in the game, leading the scoring column with 21 points. Reed knocked down five 3-pointers and collected five rebounds. Along with Reed, Matty Tanner and Asia Barr each knocked down four 3-pointers to finish with 14 points. Farrell was the final Lady Senator in double figures, finishing with 10 points and eight rebounds. Other contributors for Walters State were Maiya Reed with eight rebounds and nine assists, Izarria Alexander with eight points, Aminata Tal with eight points, Rose Morrow with seven points and six rebounds, Briontanay Marshall with four points and Juilenne Ongbagnamen with four points and six rebounds. As a team, Walters State shot 56% from the field and 52% from 3-point range. The Lady Senators collected 49 rebounds to Vol State's 25. Defensively, the Lady Senators held Vol State to 24% from the field and forced 10 turnovers. It was a strong start to the game for the Lady Senators as they led 20-6 at the end of the first quarter and 39-16 at the half. Walters State kept the offense going in the third quarter, leading 58-28 heading to the final 10 minutes. In the fourth, the Lady Senators scored 32 points and held Vol State to 12 as they cruised to the win.
