Barr breaks program record for 3-pointers in a game in 77-37 win over Volunteer State

GALLATIN, TN – Monday evening is a night Asia Barr won't be forgetting anytime soon.

 

Taking on Volunteer State, Barr broke the Walters State women's basketball record for 3-pointers in a game, knocking down 10 of them as the Lady Senators cruised to a 77-37 victory.


With the win, Walters State improved to 10-6 overall and 7-2 in TCCAA play. The Lady Senators have now won three-straight conference games. 

 

Barr finished with 30 points for the game, hitting two 3-pointers in the first, one in the second, three in the third and four in the fourth. 30 points was also a career-high for Barr, surpassing the 20 points she scored against Spartanburg Methodist earlier in the season. Barr's season-high last season was the 17 points she scored at Volunteer State. 

 

Along with Barr, Kyra Perkins had 16 points. Others scores for Walters State were Kristyna Boyd with 15, Briontanay Marshall with eight, Juilenne Ongbagnamen with four, Tianna Rhodes with two and Janae Charles with two. 

 

Walters State played great defense to start the game, holding Volunteer State to seven points while scoring 13 of their own. Barr had six points, while Boyd, Ongbagnamen and Marshall each had two and Perkins had one.  

 

In the second, the Lady Senators continued to play well and scored 18 points, taking a 31-21 lead into the locker room. Perkins was the high-scorer in the second quarter with six points, while Boyd had four. 

 

Walters State put their best quarter together in the third, scoring 24 points and holding Volunteer State to nine. Barr had nine points, while Boyd had seven. The Lady Senators led heading to the fourth, 55-30. 

 

In the fourth, Barr was unstoppable as she hit four 3-pointers. The Lady Senators held Vol State to seven points in the final 10 minutes as they cruised to the win.

Walters State will be back in action on Saturday, traveling to Dyersburg State. Tip is set for 3 p.m. ET.
