GEORGETOWN, SC – Jasmin Coleman has had an enormous amount of success at Walters State as a coach, first with the volleyball program and now with the women's basketball program.
Before her coaching career began though, Coleman was also a heck of a basketball and volleyball player.
Coleman came to Walters State to play basketball back in 2006 from Georgetown High School in South Carolina. There at Georgetown, Coleman was one of the best to ever do it. This past weekend, she was honored for that by being inducted into the Georgetown High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
On Thursday, Coleman attended the Hall of Fame Ceremony. Coleman was in the Hall of Fame's inaugural class.
"I can't thank you guys enough," Coleman said in a video when she was announced as an inductee. "I would be nothing without Georgetown. It will always be in my heart, and I am truly thankful."
Georgetown has had over 40 years of athletic history but just six athletes and one coach are going into the Hall of Fame in 2024.
"That speaks volumes about the type of athlete and person you were when you were here," Chris Moore, who helped organize the Hall of Fame, said.
During her time at Georgetown, Coleman led the team to the programs first and only conference championship her senior season. Coleman was named to the North Carolina/South Carolina All-Star Team.
She was also named to the All-State team for both volleyball and basketball her senior year.
"I want to tell you this, too," Georgetown Athletic Director Ken Cribb said. "We were asking everyone who was the best ever, and they all said the same person."
Following her time at Georgetown, Coleman helped lead Walters State, as a player, to two straight TCCAA Tournament Championships and NJCAA Tournament appearances in 2007 and 2008. Coleman returned in 2011 to assist coach Dave Kragel and also help start up the volleyball program. Coleman became the women's basketball head coach in 2020 and has guided the Lady Senators to three TCCAA Tournament Championships and a NJCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen appearance.
Coleman will begin her 14th-year coaching at Walters State, fifth as head coach of the women's basketball team, on November 1 when the Lady Senators host Shelton State at 2 p.m.
