Lady Senators fall to Florida SouthWestern, 58-44, in Carlyle/Kragel Classic 

MORRISTOWN, TN – Walters State fell in their second game of the season on Saturday in the Carlyle/Kragel Classic, taking a 58-44 loss to Florida SouthWestern.

With the defeat, the Lady Senators fell to 0-2 on the season. 

"I thought we came out with energy to start the game but in the second quarter, we had some poor decisions and they were able to capitalize," Walters State coach Jasmin Coleman said. "We had some bright spots in the second half. Our post players have to be a bigger factor inside, but they will get there.

"We have improved so much over the last few weeks and will continue to work hard at it with this young group."

For the second straight game, Terryauna Griffin led the way with 18 points. Kyra Perkins was the other Lady Senator in double figures with 10 points. Other scorers for Walters State were Jahliya McDonald with six points, Raegan Starks with six points, Nyjah Gibbs with two points and Anaya Mulholland-Natt with two points. 

It was a strong start to the game for Walters State as they broke out to a 13-12 lead after the first quarter. Griffin had seven points in the opening 10 minutes, while Starks hit a three.

However, Florida SouthWestern scored 17 points in the second quarter and held Walters State to 11 to grab a 29-24 lead at the break. Griffin added five more points in the second quarter, while McDonald, Perkins and Gibbs each scored two.

In the third, the Lady Senators scored eight points and trailed 43-32 heading to the fourth. Griffin had four in the quarter, while Starks hit another three.

In the fourth, Perkins got going with six points but the Lady Senators could not mount a comeback as they fell 58-44.
