Lady Senators stay unbeaten in TCCAA play with 73-42 win over Pellissippi State

KNOXVILLE, TN – Walters State held Pellissippi State to five first quarter points on Wednesday evening and never looked back, picking up a 73-42 win.

With the victory, the Lady Senators improved to 10-4 overall and 7-0 in TCCAA play.

"Great to get a conference road win," Walters State coach Jasmin Coleman said. "I thought we did a much better job in the second half."

Terryauna Griffin led the charge for the Lady Senators with 27 points, while Kyra Perkins had 13 points. Jahliya McDonald and Raegan Starks were the others in double figures for Walters State, both with 10 points. 

Other scorers for Walters State were Morgan Williams with five, Nyjah Gibbs with four and Anaya Mulholland-Natt with four.

The two teams battled early in the opening quarter, as Pellissippi led 4-3. However, the Lady Senators shook off the cold start and ended the quarter on a 10-1 run to lead 13-5. During the run, Perkins had six points, while Mulholland-Natt and Griffin each scored. 

In the second, Pellissippi cut the deficit to five early but Perkins hit a three and McDonald scored to get the advantage to double digits at 20-10. The lead grew to 28-12, thanks to six straight from Griffin, and it was 34-16 at the half after Starks drilled a three with 15 seconds remaining in the half. 

The third quarter saw Walters State outscore Pellissippi 24-12. A 9-0 run midway through the quarter, Williams hit a three while Griffin scored four, made it a 52-21 contest and it was 60-31 going to the final 10 minutes. Griffin scored 11 points in the third quarter, while Williams had five points. 

In the fourth, Griffin scored five more points while Starks had four and the Lady Senators cruised to the win.
