
MORRISTOWN, TN – No. 25 Walters State held Motlow State to two points in the opening quarter on Wednesday evening, going on for an 81-33 victory.
With the win, Walters State improved to 11-4 overall and 8-0 in TCCAA play.
"I was happy to get a game under our belt," Walters State coach Jasmin Coleman said. "We have players who have been putting in extra time in the gym, and it is starting to pay off.
"We just have to continue to grow up and have discipline on both ends of the floor every night."
Terryauna Griffin led the way for the Lady Senators with 24 points, while Nyjah Gibbs tied her season-high with 15 points. Others in double figures for the Lady Senators were Morgan Williams with 13 points and Raegan Starks with 10.
Other scorers for Walters State were Kyra Perkins with eight points, Ellie Linx with five points, Jahliya McDonald with four points and Anaya Mulholland-Natt with two points.
It was a great start for Walters State in the opening quarter, as Griffin hit two threes and had 8 points while Williams also drained a trey to give the Lady Senators an 11-0 lead. Motlow got on the board with a basket, but Mulholland-Natt and McDonald each scored to give Walters State a 15-2 lead after one.
In the second, Motlow cut the lead to 20-9 midway through the quarter but the Lady Senators answered with an 8-0 run. Griffin scored four during the run, while Starks and Gibbs each made baskets that made it 28-9. The Lady Senators scored six more to close out the half and led 34-13 at the break.
The third quarter saw Walters State score 29 points and hold Motlow to just eight points. Williams scored 10 of her 13 points in the quarter, while Gibbs added seven and Griffin hit two more 3-pointers and had nine points.
In the fourth, the Lady Senators closed strong and took home the 81-33 win. Gibbs had six points in the quarter, while Starks had four. McDonald, Perkins, Linx and Griffin each made a field goal in the final 10 minutes, as well.
