
TULLAHOMA, TN – No. 23 Walters State put up their highest point total of the season Wednesday night and went on for an 88-51 win over Motlow State.
With the victory, the Lady Senators improved to 21-5 overall and 18-1 in TCCAA play.
"I am happy to be able to pick up a road win and that we were able to get everyone on the floor and get them all some good minutes," Walters State coach Jasmin Coleman said. "I thought Kyra crashed the boards hard and with authority. We have to continue to have that from her heading into the postseason. We just need to continue to play with discipline and aggression each day heading into the region tournament."
Kyra Perkins led the way with 26 points, while Raegan Starks added 19 points. Other scorers for Walters State were Terryauna Griffin with 16 points, Anaya Mulholland-Natt with a season-high 15 points and Nyjah Gibbs with 12 points.
Walters State jumped out to a 6-2 lead early thanks to four points from Perkins and led 10-5 after another basket by Perkins and a Starks bucket. At 10-7, Walters State went on a 10-0 run and led 20-7. During the run, Perkins scored six, Starks scored and Griffin scored. Walters State led 20-9 after the opening quarter.
Motlow scored the first two points of the second quarter, but Walters State answered with the next 15 to go up 35-11. Starks scored six during the run, while Griffin had five and Perkins and Gibbs each scored. From there, the Lady Senators led 42-20 at the break.
In the third, Walters State saw their lead cut to 16 before back-to-back buckets by Gibbs and Starks made it 52-32. The score was 54-37 late in the quarter, but Walters State ended it on an 11-0 run to lead 65-37 after three quarters. During the run, Perkins had five, Starks had four and Mulholland-Natt had two.
In the fourth, Mulholland-Natt scored the first five points and, after Perkins scored, it was 72-37. From there, Walters State cruised to the win. In the final 10 minutes, Mullholland-Natt had 10 points, while Griffin had five points.
