Jasmin Coleman --- a former Lady Senator who has experienced outstanding success in over a decade at Walters State --- was named the third head coach in Walters State women’s basketball history on July 21, 2021.

In three seasons as head coach, Coach Coleman teams have complied an impressive 58-16 record --- an 40-5 versus Tennessee Community Colleges. She has guided her teams to three straight TCCAA regular season titles (2021, 2022, 2023), three straight TCCAA conference tournament championships (2021, 2022, 2023), and a NJCAA Sweet 16 Appearance.

For her efforts, Coach Coleman was named 2023 TCCAA Coach of the Year and Appalachian District Coach of the Year, marking the third time in her career she was earned league Coach of the Year honors. Under her guidance, Lady Senators have been named All-American, Offensive Player of the Year, TCCAA Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year and placed on the conference’s first team squad.

The Georgetown, South Carolina native spent the first 9 years of her coaching career as assistant beside hall of famer David Kragel. She helped assist the Lady Senators in reaching a NJCAA Final Four, making two trips to the Elite Eight and advancing to the Sweet 16 three times. The Lady Senators complied a 259-40 record and eight top-15 finishes in the national polls during her tenure.

Since 2013, Coleman has help lead in the program’s rise to becoming the winningest team in Tennessee women’s college basketball in terms of winning percentage. Helping to compiled a 261-49 (.841) record, which puts the Lady Senators far ahead teams such as: Tennessee (.703), Belmont (.700), Union (.831), Middle Tennessee (.742) and Carson Newman (.705).

As the teams recruiting coordinator, she helped the Lady Senators sign highly rated players in her years at WS. Under her guidance, former Lady Senator standout Dulcy Fankam Mendijiadeu was selected in the second round of the WNBA Draft. Coleman also helped sign the No.15 small forward in the country, Jephany Brown, in 2015. She helped develop Brown into a NJCAA All-American-the same season the Lady Senators made a final four appearance.

While working alongside Kragel, Coleman coached four Lady Senators who played professionally overseas. Jephany Brown Soles de Ojinaja (Mexico), Monasia Bolduc Prishtina (Kosovo), Portia Durrett Brasov (Romania)/ BK Amager (Denmark) and Sara Vujacic Vicenza (Italy)/Extremadura (Spain)/ Maresme (Spain)

Coleman has coached an impressive list of 14 NJCAA All- Americans, seven NJCAA Academic All-Americans, and 29 division one signees in 12 seasons at Walters State. 

At Walters State, Coleman was a significant contributor to two teams that reached post-season play -- the 2007 and 2008 TCCAA Tournament Champions and NJCAA National Tournaments. She was a starter and captain in her sophomore season and is among the top-15 in 3-point makes & percentage in school history.

The Georgetown High School product was named to the prestigious North Carolina/South Carolina All-Star team, after leading Georgetown High School to the programs first and only Conference Championship her senior season.

Off the court, Coleman has been equally as active, serving with Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee, Lakeway Area Habitat for Humanity Boo Fest, Girls Inc. of Hamblen County, City of Morristown Parks and Recreation Department, and Walters State Women’s Basketball Toy Drive.

Coleman received her bachelor's degree in Sociology from Jacksonville in 2010 and master’s degree in Sports Management-Sport Administration from Liberty University in 2021.

Coleman is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated and the NAACP.
