Six Straight: Lady Senators record another sweep

DAYTON, Tenn. — For the sixth straight match, the Walters State Lady Senators took down its opponent in the minimum amount of sets in a match at Bryan College Wednesday night.

 

The Lady Senators rode the right arm of sophomore Kaley Muncy, who recorded a team-high 14 kills in leading WSCC to a 25-13, 25-19 and 25-15 victory over the Lions for the sixth straight sweep.

 

Walters State improved ot 15-7 on the year with the win, and they have not lost a set since Sept. 22 at Snead State.

 

The Lady Senators were hot right out of the gates, hitting at a .323 clip in the opening game and notching 15 kills in the first set. In the second game, WSCC had more chances but converted one less kill, still hitting at a .194 percentage, and the Lady Senators closed the match with 9 kills in the third set to complete the sweep with 38 kills in the match.

 

Behind Muncy, Micayla Vallie and Mckenzie Jenkins both notched 7 kills, while Jayla Rolle had 4 kills, Olivia Kent added 3, Courtney Dotson had a pair and Lexi Wakefield added the other tally of the night.

 

Dotson dished out 23 assists, while Sydney Hurd handed out 6 helpers, and Hayley Wolfe recorded 14 digs to lead the team. Vallie added 12 digs, while Dotson and Wakefield had 8 each in the win. Wakefield also served up 5 aces in the match, with Vallie adding a pair and Hurd delivering an ace as well in the victory.

 

The Lady Senators will look to continue the streak this weekend with a pair of home matches on Saturday. First, Walters State will play host to Patrick Henry at 2 p.m. before welcoming TCCAA rival Cleveland State to 'Z' Buda Gymnasium and Assembly Hall at 6 p.m. that evening.
