No. 2 Walters State end regular season with win over Maryville College JV

MARYVILLE, TN – No. 2 Walters State ended the regular season on Tuesday afternoon against Maryville College JV doing something they have done a lot of this season.

Win.

The Senators used a 17-hit performance in the finale to take down the Scotts, 12-2. With the win, Walters State ends the regular season with a 52-3 record.

At the plate, Walters State was led by Nick Block. Block had two hits and four RBIs in the contest. Along with Block, Silas Butler was 3-3 with an RBI while Noah Gent tripled and drove in two runs. Caleb McNeely also knocked in three runs.

On the mound, a plethora of Senators saw action. While Robbie Yates got the start, he faced just one batter before being replaced by Drew Honeycut. Honeycut threw three innings, allowing one run on three hits while striking out two.

Picking up the win in the contest was Blake Cooper. Cooper was excellent on the mound as he threw three scoreless innings and struck out six. Hudson Ross, Brayden Matthews and Skyler Cannady closed things out as each threw a scoreless inning.

The scoring started in the first by Walters State as Alberto Osuna singled home Jerry Hammons. With that RBI, Osuna tied the school record for RBIs in a season with 92.

Maryville would tie the game up in the bottom half of the inning before the Senators struck for three in the top of the second. McNeely got the scoring going with a two-RBI single before Hammons singled him home. The Senators added two more in the third when Block doubled home two runs to make it 6-1.

After a scoreless fourth, Walters State added two more in the fifth when Butler doubled home Block and McNeely scored Butler on a groundout. The scoring continued in the sixth when Gent singled in Cam Fisher and Block singled home Gent before Gent and Block closed the scoring out in the eighth with an RBI triple and groundout.
