COLUMBIA, TN – No. 1 Walters State could not hold onto an early lead on Friday evening against Columbia State, falling 7-4.
With the loss, the Senators moved to 49-5 overall and 21-3 in TCCAA play.
Wesley Scott got the start on the mound for the Senators and threw 5.2 innings, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out five.
Joey Mitchell replaced Scott with two outs in the sixth and threw 0.2 innings, allowing two runs, one earned. Geo Rivera replaced Mitchell with an out in the seventh and gave up three unearned runs on three hits.
At the plate, Noah Gent, Kruise Newman and Andrew Ott each had two hits. Gent hit a home run, as did Caleb McNeely.
Following a scoreless first inning, the Senators struck first in the game with a run in the second on a Gent solo home run to lead off the inning.
Walters State added one more in the fourth to increase their lead to 2-0 as Newman doubled home Corbin Shaw. In the fifth, two more runs came across for the Senators as McNeely belted his 22nd home run of the season.
However, Columbia State would score seven unanswered after that to take the victory.

The two teams will be back in action on Saturday for the final two games of the series and regular season. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. ET.
