DYERSBURG, TN – No. 1 Walters State fell twice on Sunday afternoon to Dyersburg State. The Senators dropped a 3-2 contest in game one and fell by a score of 8-4 in game two.
With the losses, Walters State fell to 43-8 on the season and 17-5 in TCCAA play.
GAME ONE: Dyersburg State 3, No. 1 Walters State 2
In game one, the Senators led 2-1 through three innings but a run in the fourth and one in the sixth gave Dyersburg the win.
Landon Crumbley (8-1) got the start on the mound for the Senators and threw 5.1 innings. Crumbley allowed three runs, two earned, on four hits while striking out five.
Taz Butler relieved Crumbley with an out in the sixth and got the final two outs. Butler struck one out.
At the plate, Walters State had six hits with Cole McCallum and Corbin Shaw leading the way with two each. Shaw hit a solo homer for the Senators only extra base hit.
Dyersburg got the scoring going in the game with a solo homer in the first, but the Senators answered in the top of the second. Kruise Newman led the inning off for Walters State with a single and then moved to third with two outs on an errant throw. Following a walk to Angus Pence, Newman came in to score on an error by the third baseman that allowed Caleb Marmo to reach and made it 1-1.
In the third, the Senators took the lead as Shaw hit his 10th homer of the season to make it 2-1. However, Dyersburg scored one in the fourth on a solo homer and then took the lead in the sixth on an RBI double.
GAME TWO: Dyersburg State 8, No. 1 Walters State 4
In game two, the Senators scored two in the first but gave up six in the second as they fell for the second time.
Blake Cooper (6-2) got the start on the mound in the game and threw one inning. He allowed six runs on five hits while striking out two.
Replacing Cooper in the second was Bradley Gagen and he threw an inning and allowed a run. Jackson Hull pitched the next three innings, allowing one run on three hits, before Brenden Pomerleau threw a scoreless sixth.
At the plate, Deniel Ortiz had the only extra base hit in the game for Walters State. Ortiz knocked in two runs while Newman collected three hits.
Things started off well for the Senators in the game as Ortiz doubled home two runs in the first to make it 2-0. However, Dyersburg cut the lead in half with a run in the first and then scored six in the second to make it 7-2.
That would be the score until the fourth when Marmo hit an RBI single to make it 7-3. Dyersburg got one more run in the fifth, while the Senators scored in the seventh on an RBI single by Jackson Bryan that cut it to 8-4.

Walters State will be back in action on Monday as they play a nine-inning game against Dyersburg State. First pitch is set for 12 p.m. ET.
