Three former Walters State Senators selected in MLB Draft

MORRISTOWN, TN – Three former Walters State baseball players were selected in the MLB Draft this week.

On Monday, Cam Fisher was selected in the fourth round (131st pick) by the Houston Astros, while Andrew Lindsey was selected in the fifth round (146th pick) by the Miami Marlins.

On Tuesday, Zach Joyce was taken in the 14th round (414th pick) by the Los Angeles Angels. Joyce will be reunited with his twin brother Ben, a former Senator who was drafted by the Angels last year.

"We are so happy for all three of those guys on achieving every kids dream of being drafted in the MLB Draft," Walters State baseball coach Dave Shelton said. "Each of those young men have a different story of perseverance that makes their achievement even greater. The three of them exemplify what it means to have been a Senator Baseball Player, and we are proud that they are a part of our Tradition here at Walters State."

Fisher was with Walters State for one season in 2021. In 67 games, Fisher hit .321 with 12 homers and 61 RBIs. He scored 64 runs and stole 21 bases. Fisher was named to the All-TCCAA Baseball East Team and helped lead Walters State to a 61-7 record and a JUCO World Series Appearance.

Fisher then went on to Charlotte, playing two seasons. In 122 games, Fisher hit .318 with 48 homers and 126 RBIs. This past year, Fisher hit 30 home runs and drove in 66 RBIs. His home run total was a school record and tied the C-USA Single-Season record. He was named an All-American by six different publications.

For Lindsey, he pitched for Walters State in 2019 and during the COVID shortened season in 2020. In 2019, Lindsey was 5-0 with a 2.08 ERA. He threw 47.2 innings, striking out 66 batters. Lindsey helped lead the Senators to a 54-11 season and a third-place finish at the JUCO World Series.

In 2020, Lindsey was 4-1 with a 1.74 ERA. Lindsey threw 31 innings, striking out 39 batters.

Lindsey moved on to Charlotte following his time at Walters State, going 6-2 in his lone year there. He had a 4.89 ERA and struck out 76 in 81 innings. Following a year off, Lindsey returned to baseball this year as a member of the Tennessee baseball team. This season, Lindsey was 3-4 with a 2.90 ERA and was a huge piece of a Tennessee team that made the College World Series. Lindsey was named a Third-Team All-American.

Along with Lindsey, Joyce also pitched for Walters State during the 2019 season. During that season, Joyce made 13 appearances, throwing 15.2 innings. He allowed just two earned runs and struck out 24.

Following his time at Walters State, Joyce stepped away from the game of baseball before returning this year as a member of the Tennessee baseball team. In his lone season with the Vols, Joyce made 13 appearances. He struck out 17 in 10.1 innings of work and allowed just five runs.
