Senators complete sweep with 11-1 win over Motlow State

MORRISTOWN, TN — There may have been a steady rainfall during Saturday's contest against Motlow State, but it wasn't enough to extinguish Walters State's red-hot bats.

After scoring 21 runs in 14 innings on Friday, the Senators scored 11 in seven innings on Saturday. That was enough for an 11-1 win over the Bucks.

With the series sweep, Walters State improved to 17-8 overall and 4-2 in TCCAA play.

Walters State had 13 hits in the game, with Nate Conner totaling four of them. Conner hit a solo homer and drove in a run.

Along with Conner, Jack Vogele had three hits and two RBI. Logen Sutton had two RBI, as well.

On the mound, Manning West (4-0) got the start and threw four innings. West gave up one run on six hits and struck out four.

Taz Butler replaced West in the fifth and threw the final three innings. Butler allowed one hit, while striking out five.

Walters State wasted no time getting on the board, scoring four runs in the first inning. A balk brought Conner home, and Sutton doubled two home to make it 3-0. The final run came on an RBI double by Andrew Grande

In the second, the Senators increased their lead to 5-0 on an RBI double by Vogele. Motlow picked up a run in the third to make it 5-1, but Walters State broke the game open in the sixth with four more runs. Conner started it off with a solo homer, before an error scored Vogele to make it 7-1. Zion Taylor made it 8-1 with an RBI double, and it was 9-1 after a Keaton Ray RBI single.

The final two runs came in the bottom of the seventh on a Deniel Ortiz RBI double and Vogele RBI single.
