Walters State competes at SECCC MTB Kickoff

DEMOREST, GA -- This weekend marked the inaugural mountain biking season for Walters State Cycling.

The team has grown this year and is now joined by Carter Dickerson to ride alongside Hayden Sinnamon.  This weekend at Piedmont University, the team raced in the Mountain Bike Cross Country against some big-name colleges including Auburn, Warren Wilson, University of Georgia, Western Carolina, Pellissippi State, Kennesaw State, Truett McConnell, Clemson and Georgia Tech.

"I was very proud of how the team performed at this race," Walters State coach Brian Lassiter said. "They were racing in a higher division and were still right there in the mix."

Dickerson, new to the team, was competing in his first ever race and showed that he's got what it take to race at this level.  He showed little drop in speed from the first half of the course to the second, which is hard to do on a course like the one at Piedmont.

Hayden continued to build on his 4th place finish in last year's Road Conference Championships in the Criterium, finishing ninth this weekend in a very tough field.

Next week the team is off to Auburn where they'll be racing in the Cross Country and Short track events.
