Sinnamon does well for Walters State at Auburn cycling event

AUBURN, AL -- The Walters State cycling team had another strong showing this past weekend at Auburn University.

Once again, Walters State performed well while facing a strong field of mountain bikers from several big-name schools, such as Auburn, Georgia Tech and Clemson, to name a few.  Hayden Sinnamon just missed the Top 10 in the Cross-Country event, finishing 11th. He took a fall during the first lap of the race trying to avoid another fallen biker, losing three places in the process.  He worked hard to ride back up the front but never made it back into the top-10.

The same can't be said of his performance in the Short Track Cross-Country event.  Starting in the back half of the pack, Hayden climbed up into the 5th position and held on until the final lap where he was passed by a Piedmont athlete just before the finish line.  His performance earned him a 6th place finish behind two Kennesaw State athletes, Auburn, Lees McRae and Piedmont racers.

"The team is performing well this season and is showing that Walters State is becoming a contender in the cross-country races." Walters State coach Brian Lassiter said. "Having raced up in Division both races this season has proven a huge confidence booster during our first season out there.  We were down a racer this week but will have the full team back in two weeks when we ride at Lees McRae, the weekend of the 23rd, and I'm looking forward to seeing how were perform with a rest weekend in between."

The Walters State Cycling team has two races left this season at Lees McRae in two weeks followed by the Conference Championships at Truett McConnell, the last weekend of the month.
