Four score in double figures as Walters State takes down Roane State

HARRIMAN, TN – Walters State completed the Wednesday night sweep of Roane State with a superb offensive showing, taking down the Raiders 92-79.  

With the win, Walters State improves to 8-4 on the season and are 7-4 in conference play.  

The Senators had four score in double figures with De'Marius Boyd leading the way with 22 points. Along with Boyd, Deovaunta Williams had 20 and Kajuan Hale totaled 19 points. Tylar Haynes recorded his third double-double of the season with 17 points and 12 rebounds.  

As a team, Walters State shot 45.1 % from the field and outrebounded the Raiders 41-29.  

It was a back-and-forth start for both teams with Roane State leading 6-4 early. However, the Senators went on a 9-0 run to got up 13-6. Roane State stopped the bleeding, but Walters State answered back when Hale drilled a 3-pointer and Haynes made a layup.  

From there, the Senators would only increase their lead as Williams and Haynes both made shots to make it 24-11. Roane State would fight back, cutting the lead to six before Boyd converted an and-one and Naji Wright hit a free throw to get the lead back to double digits.  

Late in the half, Roane State got the lead down to four but Haynes hit two free throws and Williams stole the ball and made a layup to make it 49-41 at the half.  

In the second half, it was Roane State who came out quick, cutting the lead to three before Boyd converted a layup. However, Roane State responded and made it a one-point game before Williams hit two free throws, Haynes made a layup, Williams hit a 3-pointer and Sly Thompson got a steal and made a layup.  

From there, Walters State was able to control the second half and pull away for an easy victory. Boyd had 13 in the second half while Hale and Williams each scored eight and Haynes had seven.  

UP NEXT: 

Walters State will be back in action on Saturday, taking on Chattanooga State. Tip is scheduled for 4 p.m. The Senators are currently 3-0 against the Tigers this season.
