Multitude of players contribute in Senators victory over Experience Academy

MORRISTOWN, TN – Every player that saw action scored points for Walters State on Tuesday evening against Experience Academy as the Senators cruised to a 114-73 victory.

With the win, the Senators improve to 6-3 overall on the season.

"They were a talented team," Walters State coach Bill Carlye said. "When we were able to settle down and run some stuff, we caused issues, but they were good offensively. With injuries we have right now, any win we can get is a good one."

The Senators were led in the game by Josh Jerome, who continues to be a force inside. Jerome had 21 points and six rebounds on Tuesday night. He's now averaging almost 13 points per game and seven rebounds.

Along with Jerome Javontay Rollings and Ty Hurst both poured in 19 points apiece while Ronnie Thompson Jr. came off the bench and had 15 points and five rebounds. Isaiah Farrior and Brandon Kabuya Mpoyi each had eight each as well while Kawika Makua scored seven.

"I like some people right now and the way they are playing," Carlyle said. "Josh (Jerome) keeps playing really well. (Ijesuoefe Iyamu) is playing well and Rollings is as well. I'm starting to like what I am seeing."

Much like Monday night, the Senators were in a back-and-forth affair with Experience in the first half. Walters State broke out to a 4-0 lead on baskets from Hurst and Rollings but were deadlocked after that and were tied 19-19 midway through the half.

Rollings would break the tie with a 3-pointer and Jerome made a jump shot to push the lead to five. The Senators kept the charge going and built their lead to 10 when Farrior made two free throws. However, the Kings answered and had it to two with two minutes to go in the half until Iyamu scored, Rollings scored and Hurst scored.

Two technical fouls in the last 30 seconds on Experience gave Walters State a 13-point lead at the break.

Much like Monday night as well, the Senators turned on the jets in the second half coming out of the locker room. Walters State opened the half on a 12-0 run that made it 66-41. Five different Senators scored during the run.

In the second half, Thompson had 11 points while Jerome had nine and Makua all seven of his points. Dowar Jioklow capped off the game with a slam dunk as the Senators cruised to the 114-73 victory.

Walters State outscored Experience in the second half, 60-32.

UP NEXT:

Walters State will enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday before getting back to action next Monday against Tennessee Wesleyan JV at home. Tip for that game is scheduled for 6 p.m.

"We just need to try and get healthy over the Thanksgiving break and come back stronger and be ready to play," Carlyle said.
