Senators drop contest to NJCAA DII No. 7 Davidson-Davie

HUDSON, NC – Walters State fell behind early on Saturday afternoon to NJCAA DII No. 7 Davidson-Davie and could never recover, falling 85-44.

 

With the loss, Walters State falls to 9-6 on the season. The game was their final game of 2021. 

 

Ronnie Thompson Jr, making a return to his home state, led the Senators in scoring with 12 points. Josh Jerome was second in scoring with seven points.

 

Other scorers in the game for Walters State were Ty Hurst with four, Isaiah Farrior with three, Riley Cooper with two,  Ijesuoefe Iyamu with two, Javontay Rollings with three, Dowar Jioklow with five, Jared Carter with one, Kawika Makua with four and Brandon Kabuya Mpoyi with one. 

 

Walters State was 18-42 (42.9%) from the field and collected 28 rebounds. 

 

Walters State got the scoring going in the game as Farrior hit a 3-pointer for the Senators only lead of the ball game. The Storms quickly answered with a 3-pointer of their own and then scored five more before Iyamu ended the drought with a bucket. 

 

Davidson-Davie would build their lead to 15-5 before Thompson Jr. was there for four quick points, but the Storm went on a 10-2 run and led 25-11.

The lead would only grow from there as the Storm led 41-20 at the break.

 

In the second half, it was more of the same as Davidson-Davie outscored the Senators 44-24. Thompson Jr. added eight points in the second half while Jerome had five and Hurst four.
